Nicko Cruises

Nicko Cruises was formed in 1992 by the German Ekkehard Beller as Nicko Tours to offer rivercruises in Russia on mainly the Wolga river. The company did not own the ships but chartered them and slowly grew through the 1990's and 2000's to more regions beside Russia. The company operates now in many parts of the world, sailing around 100 routes on rivers each year in Africa, China, Myanmar, Russia and Europe. 

In 2012, the growing company was bought by the Portugese entrepeneur Mário Ferreira, who owned another rivercruisecompany under the name of DouroAzul, based out of Portugal. Without losing their own identities, the companies merged under the banner of Mystic Invest Holding. Under the new ownership, the companyname was slightly altered to Nicko Cruises Flussreisen, only untill 2018 when the company again was renamed slightly to Nicko Cruises Schiffsreisen. This was done, as the company Nicko Cruises was going to diversify into oceancruises as well. 

Mystic Investment uses several brandnames under the banner, most of them involved in ocean cruising since the early 2020's although of course DouroAzul and Nicko Cruises have a history in rivercruises since the early 1990's. Their other brands are Mystic Cruises and Atlas Ocean Cruises. The combined company ordered a series of seven 200-passenger expedition-style cruiseships measuring just under 10.000 tons for the start-up of their oceancruises. These are or will be World Explorer (2019), World Voyager (2021), World Navigator (2021), World Traveller (2022), World Seeker (2023), World Adventurer (2024) and World Discoverer (2024). All of these ships, except for World Voyager, are named on the Atlas Ocean Cruises website as being in their fleet so that seems to be the main company. On the Mystic Cruises website, just World Voyager and World Explorer are mentioned and the oceangoing fleet used within the Nicko Cruises brand are also World Voyager next to the 2021-aquired Vasco Da Gama. This last ship is by far the largest within the fleet of lets say Mystic Invest and came over in 2021 from the defunct CMV Cruises. She was the former Statendam of Holland America Line, built in 1992 and measuring around 60.000 tons. 

With their two-ship oceangoing fleet, Nicko Cruises mostly sails in northern Europe and the Mediterranean, the west-coast of Africa, the Caribbean and of course transatlantics in between. Their (chartered) rivercruises fleet now numbers around 26 ships next to these.
