Majestic International Cruises

In the late 1980's, a group of investors started the Majestic International Cruises group, a part of the Athens (Greece) based Kollakis Group. Their first true milestone was when they bought the Kypros Star from Opale Lines, a 1966-built ferry in 1989. The ship was re-built extensively as a cruiseship under the name Ocean Majesty and started sailing for the company, although from 1994 onwards, Majestic International chartered her out to Epirotiki Cruises in 1994 as Homeric. Several years, Majestic International operated the ship under their own name, but mostly, she was chartered out to other companies. In 1998, a second ship was bought and renamed Ocean Explorer 1 and she was an oldie, built in 1944 as General W.P. Richardson, a US navy transport ship. She later sailed for American Export Lines, Hawaiian Steamship Company, American President Lines, Chandris and Festival Cruises before being sold to Majestic International for use as a hotelship for the 1998 expo at Lisbon. Later, she was laid-up and scrapped in 2005, after some 60 years of service.

In 2002, Majestic International bought their thirth ship, mostly for the charter market, and she was named Ocean Monarch, the former Switserland of Leisure Cruises. Also an old ship, built as a freighter for Port Line in 1955 as Port Sydney. She became part of the Classic international Cruises fleet in 2008, before being scrapped in 2014 after that companies demise.

In 2004, Majestic International bought the 1976-built Olympia Countess from the defunct Royal Olympia Cruises and renamed the ship Ocean Countess. As such, she saw several charters before being laid-up in Greece, where she finally burned out in 2013.

Now, Majestic International Cruises is back to just one ship in their fleet, Ocean Majesty, that was also their first. The company still operates mainly in the charter business and the ship has seen many of those.
